Linux: The Next Generation Operating System?

The competition between operating systems is on the rise. Who will take the hot seat to become next generation operating system is a debatable topic but still people have their opinions. The popular version also know as windows operating system has gained considerable market share in recent times  but as more and more awareness of Linux is spreading across the globe things are about to change. The recent data gathered from Linux Foundation has a different story to tell. The Linux is on growth curve. The Linux Foundation report found that 72 percent of big data companies use Linux as their operating system. The finding also throws some light on the future usage of Linux as OS in the business environment.

The technical issues related to Linux, which were matter of concern, for users in the past have gone down considerably. The report says there is 40% drop in people who thought technical issues would hold them back from using Linux.  Technically speaking the number has gone down from 20.3% in 2010 to 12.2% today. This development shows that there has been significant improvement in the learning skills of Linux among the users along with its easy to use interface. The 2012 Enterprise End User survey reflects positive sentiments regarding Linux in the business environment. The report says that companies are ready to add more Linux addition in the coming months as it offers benefits ranging from robust security, affordability and flexibility."

The buzz is that if the accelerated growth cycle of Linux continues then chances seems bright that in the next five years it could take a leadership position and be the Next Generation OS in the Large and small business environment.
